How long will the results last?
It is not uncommon for people to have whiter teeth that last for 1-2 years. However the daily habits that changed your tooth color in the first place will again change them over time. (Coffee, tea, colas, smoking, etc…) Most people find that by doing a weekly at home whitening touch up and having a follow up treatment in 6-12 months, their teeth maintain their whiteness.
How many shades whiter can I expect my teeth to get? Individual results may vary, but many people see a 4-7 shade difference after one treatment.
How does the actual bleaching process work?Although the surface of the teeth seem smooth, when you look under a microscope you will see pores. Over time the staining foods we eat and what we drink, enter these pores causing them to darken. The Hydrogen Peroxide is extremely small in molecular size which makes it easy to penetrate the tooth’s enamel. The ingredients diffuse into the teeth where the active oxygen is produced and the tooth is lightened by the actual conversion of the colored compounds into colorless ones. Although the chemicals do penetrate the tooth’s enamel, it does not change or hurt it.
What is the expected time for a treatment
and what is the process?
Plan on spending an hour with us. We will ask you to show up a few minutes prior to your treatment time so you can fill out all necessary paperwork. The process takes between 30-45 minutes. By allowing an hour, you will not be rushed and we have plenty of time for pre and post treatment care, instructions, set up and clean up.
Tell me about the procedure I will be getting today.
After filling out the necessary paperwork, we will ask you to go brush and floss your teeth to remove any surface barriers. We will find your beginning tooth shade on the guide and record it to compare with after the treatment. We will provide you with all necessary supplies to prepare your mouth and teeth for the whitening. You will paint your teeth with the gel, put your protective glasses on start the machine and relax for 15-20 minutes. We will then ask you to wipe your teeth clean and repeat the process for a second 15-20 minute session. When you are finished we will compare your beginning shade to your new whiter shade. What you will be left with is “A Beautiful Smile”!
